June 5, 1881 – Dr. Axel Lennart Wenner-Gren, industrialist financier, and Philanthropist, was born in Sweden. His company Alweg would be best remembered for developing the original Disneyland monorail.
June 5, 1905 – Actor John Abbott, the voice of the Wolf in Disney’s 1967 classic “The Jungle Book” was born in London.
June 5, 1925 – Actor-singer Bill Hayes, who earned a gold record for “The Ballad of Davy Crockett,” was born in Harvey, Il. He also had a minor follow up hit with “Wringle Wrangle,” from the 1956 Disney movie “Westward Ho, The Wagons.”
June 5, 1930 – Disney’s Silly symphony cartoon “Arctic Antics” was released. This would be Ubi Iwerk’s last cartoon at Disney as a director.
June 5, 1934 – Walt Disney Productions was granted a trademark of “Mickey Mouse” for use in books and comic strips.
June 5, 1957 – The Disney TV show aired “Antarctica-Operation Deepfreeze”
June 5, 1961 – Voice artist Mary Kay Bergman, whose talents can be heard in Disney’s “Mulan”, and “Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure”, was born.
June 5, 1962 – Comic actor Jeff Garlin, the voice of Captain McCrea in Disney/Pixar’s “Wall-E,” was born in Chicago, Il. He also appeared in an episode of the Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place.”
June 5, 1972 – WDW’s “If You Had Wings”, sponsored by Eastern Airlines, opened in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom. (Closed June 1, 1987)
June 5, 1976 – Actor Marc Worden, a member of the 90’s TV series MMC for seasons 3-7, was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
