my neighbor is retired NYPD. we were talking about disney last night in our yard (when am i NOT talking about disney? well, it's more so that i became a disney travel agent). anyway, i was talking about how our next trip in Sept will be a different experience because my son will probably be walking by then. he told me a story he learned from his friend who was a security guy at wdw...

there was a family of three (mom, dad, young DD) at wdw. they became friendly with another couple staying at their resort. they wound up doing alot of the parks and meals together with them as they really seemed to hit it off. they were with them pretty much nonstop for 5 days! while in fantasyland, the daughter needed to go to the bathroom and the "friend" said, "oh i have to go i'll take her no problem." so the parents just waited at the door of the bathroom. the "friend" husband said he was going to run and get a drink and be right back. the parents waited a few minutes and they never came out. something wasn't right. the parents immediately found a cast member who put out a call to security et al.

in 7 minutes, the "friends" had given the kid a horse tranquilizer, changed her clothes, and dyed her hair. immediately security put the park on lock-down and, thank goodness, they caught the "friends"! this was all in the course of less than 15 minutes.

i forgot to ask when this happened but my neighbor said that no kid has been taken from disney (knock on wood) ever.

of course i would never let my child out of my sight EVER ever ever but it was a scary story with a great ending that i thought i'd share.

sure, CMs may not be what they used to be, but it's nice to know that they have protocols set for every type of emergency.

Did you check with snopes.com first? This is a rather old "wives tale" that seems to be passed down from generation to generation...

It is true though that Disney takes this type of stuff pretty seriously. Security is pretty prevelent in the parks but uniformed and plain clothes "officers" as well as many other means of surveillance. You would be amazed as how much of the property is covered by camera.

Lesson: If your mother tells you she loves you, check your sources!

That same story has been making the rounds for many, many years. Sometimes the location is a shopping mall, sometimes a school, sometimes a playground...

Bottom line, as others above have said, it is a TOTAL fabrication.

I'm going to close this thread - - no need for more discussion.
