May 28, 1928 – Disney’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit black & white silent short “Oh, What a Knight” was released.
May 28, 1941 – Disney animator Eric Larson arrived at work to discover his wing of the Disney Studio empty. Some 300-plus employees were outside on a picket line participating in a labor strike against the studio. The strikers were mostly assistant animators, inkers, and painters, who want union representation, higher wages, and job security. None of the animators who will become Walt’s Nine Old Men (which include Larson) join the strikers. (The strike lasted till mid-September)
May 28, 1945 – Disney’s Educational film “The Dawn of Better Living” was delivered to Westinghouse Electric Co.
May 28, 1953 – The 1st ever 3D cartoon “Adventures in Music: Melody” was released in the U.S. and at the Paramount Theatre in Hollywood, Ca. It would later be shown in the Fantasyland Theater at Disneyland as part of the 3D Jamboree.
May 28, 1960 – Disneyland’s “Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland” attraction opened in Frontierland. (Closed Jan. 2, 1977)
May 28, 1960 – Disneyland’s “Art of Animation” attraction opened. (Ended Sept. 5, 1966)
May 28, 1961 – The Disney TV show “Disneyland ‘61/Olympic Elk” aired.
May 28, 1966 – “It’s a Small World” attraction, sponsored by Bank of America, opened in Disneyland’s Fantasyland. The attraction features 297 animated children, 256 toys, and a canal filled with 233,000 gallons of water. It would also be the park’s first continually loading high capacity ride.
May 28, 1978 – Disney’s 2-hour TV movie “The Young Runaways” aired.
May 28, 1986 – “Alice in Wonderland” became the 5th “Walt Disney Classic” to be released on video.
