May 27, 1879 – Actress Lucile Watson, Miss Doshy in Disney’s “Song of the South”, was born in Quebec, Canada.
May 27, 1911 – Actor Vincent Price, the voice of Professor Ratigan in Disney’s 1986 release of “The Great Mouse Detective”, was born in St. Louis, Missouri.
May 27, 1933 – Disney’s Silly Symphony short, “The Three Little Pigs”, was released.
May 27, 1933 – The “Century of Progress Exposition” opened in Chicago. (In August, Walt Disney and animator Ward Kimball would visit the show to see its acres of famous railroad engines.)
May 27, 1948 – Disney’s 10th animated feature “Melody Time”, was released.
May 27, 1938 – Disney’s Silly Symphony cartoon “Wynken, Blyken, and Nod”, was released. The film was made up of miscellaneous stories. The segments included: “Once Upon A Wintertime”, “Bumble Boogie”, “Johnny Appleseed”, “Trees”, “Little Toot”, “Blame it on the Samba”, and “Pecos Bill”.
May 27, 1977 – Disneyland held a grand opening ceremony for its newest attraction, Space Mountain (just in time for the Memorial Day weekend crowds). Attending the grand opening are six surviving astronauts from the original seven Project Mercury space travelers and the widow of the seventh.
May 27, 1984 – Roy P. Disney, the son of Roy E. Disney, married Linda Ross.
May 27, 1985 – Former President of the U.S. Ronald Reagan attended a 2nd Inaugural Celebration at American Gardens in Epcot.
May 27, 1987 – Disney’s TV special “An all New Adventure of Disney’s Sport Goofy, Featuring Sport Goofy in Soccermania” aired on NBC.
