We are staying at Coronado next weekend and we would like to check out the Yacht Club resort's Stormalong Bay pool area. I have heard that they check resort IDs in order to gain access. Does anyone know if you just show your room key or do you have to swipe it for verification?

You're allowed to go look at the Stormalong Bay pool area at the Yacht Club, but you can't use it as a guest at Coronado. We don't allow discussions of cheating the system here, so I don't think anyone will answer your questions beyond that.

They do a thorough check of resort ID at Stormalong Bay. There is a long series of numbers on each key card. Those numbers (some of the digits) are a code which indicates WHICH Disney resort you are staying at. The lifeguards stationed at the gated entrances look for the codes signifying YC/BC/BCV, and they issues wristbands for the party for each i.d. shown. Everyone must show i.d. Even children. If you are not staying at either of these three, you cannot swim in (or enter) the SAB area. The complex is surrounded by a fence on all sides. You can certainly look and "check it out", but you cannot go in and swim. If you are walking around in there without a wristband on, you will be escorted out promptly.

Who said anything about cheating the system?

I simply asked if our family could take a look at the pool area to see if we would like to stay here on a future visit!

Nice attitude....

You're welcome. You can actually see quite a bit of SAB from "the outside". There is a wraparound porch-style walkway that connects YC and BC. It's where Beaches and Cream is. You can see a lot of the pool area from there, as well as from the walkway along Crescent Lake, which goes right up to the pool.

In order to access the "back porch" walkway, just go into either the YC or BC lobbies, and head out the doors that lead out there. In BC, you have to walk over past Cape May Cafe, and down the hallway until you reach a door at the corner which leads outside. At YC, head past Captain's Grille to the hallway back there, and there will also be a door leading out to the "back porch".

We were able to see enough of this pool on previous visits by "just looking" to know that we wanted to stay there, and we just stayed at BC for the first time in March! It was awesome! The pool was my favorite part.

My apologies. The way you worded the question made it sound to me like you were looking for a way to get around the rules. If you were simply looking to know if you could check it out, why ask exactly how they check IDs? I answered that part of your question, that you could certainly go look around, and added the reminder that we don't discuss cheating the system. Trying to be helpful. The attitude is apparently all your own. Maybe you just need a little boost.

We have just asked CM 's at the pool's entrance if we could look around and they have always been very willing to allow us to walk through. :vacation::swim:We have done this in the Spring and Fall many times. And now are staying there in Sept.:cloud9:

Any one of the Cast Members would be glad to allow you to walk the grounds/hotel to get a feel for the place...as a person interested in a future stay there.

There are many people on this site and other Disney-related sites that help people get better deals, find convenient ways of getting from one place to another...and the like. Along the way, I'm sure many INTERCOT moderators have been asked for loop-holes around certain rules and regulations regarding WDW. This has probably happened so often, that they try to nip it in the bud ASAP...especially if they want to continue their good working relationship with Disney. Much of their information comes from Disney Cast Members, and to allow discussions on their boards that are less than honest might jeopardize that relationship...at the detriment to all who use this site. I'm sure no hard feelings were meant by either party.

We stayed at BCV last week and for the first time at any resort we were carded at the pool and given wristbands to wear for the day. I personnaly don't get the hype. It's just a pool nothing that special although the sand on the bottom was really cool except for the spots were there was no sand the bottom is very rough. BTW this was my 100 post!

Please don't get sarcastic. What you SAID was "check it out" and that is vague enough to be open to interpretation. If you'd actually said "take a look at" there wouldn't have been that confusion.

Not to mention the thread is labeled "Pool Hopping Question" which implies a desire to pool hop, not to just check it out. It's a misunderstanding based on unclear communication. I think we can still move on and all be friends. I'm not a moderator and wasn't speaking as one, just looking out for the poster in case no responses were forthcoming so that he would understand why. He clearly misunderstood my intentions just as I apparently misinterpreted his words. It happens.

Moderator Alert !!

I am a moderator and I suggest everyone stop and take a deep breath. It is understandable the assumptions people made based on how the original poster worded the original post, but that seems to have been clarified, so let's keep to the topic at hand.

To the original poster, I think the best you will be able to do is view the pool from outside the gate, as restriction to entry seems to be pretty strictly enforced.

Christine,

Thank you...actually, we just booked our family there for an upcoming trip on the Beach Club side, so it's a non-issue now.

I had no idea that this was such a touchy topic.

FYI, I am a former Cast Member (my college days) and our family always adheres to WDW's policies. While I have to disagree with the post that states that there is a difference between "taking a look" and "checking it (pool area) out", I won't beat a dead horse.

Thank you....

I agree with what was previously mentioned - if you ask the cast member at one of the entrances to the pool, I'm sure they can tell you whether or not it's OK to go into the pool area to look around. If it's too full, they might ask you to come back later. If it's not too full, I doubt it's a big deal to look - but the cast members at SB are always easy to approach.

But be careful. The pool area is amazing - you might need to come back and stay at BC/YC in the future to enjoy it!! Have a good trip....
