Apr. 30, 1789 – George Washington, standing on the balcony of Federal Hall on Wall Street in New York, took his oath of office as the very first U.S. President. (At this time the capital was located in N.Y.C.)
Apr. 30, 1923 – Actor Al Lewis was born in New York. Famously known as Grandpa from the hit 1960’s TV series The Munsters, Lewis appeared in Disney’s 1970 live-action film “The Boatniks” as Bert.
Apr. 30, 1926 – Actress Cloris Leachman, Nurse Spex in Disney’s 2005 live-action feature “Sky High,” was born in Des Moines, Iowa.
Apr. 30, 1928 – Disney’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon “Ozzie of the Mounted” was released.
Apr. 30, 1939 – The New York World’s Fair, “Building the World of Tomorrow”, opened in Flushing Meadows. Disney was represented by a specially commissioned Mickey Mouse cartoon developed for the Nabisco Pavilion.
Apr. 30, 1948 – Disney’s Pluto cartoon “Bone Bandit” was released.
Apr. 30, 1952 – Mr. Potato Head was first introduced to the public when it became the first toy ever advertised on TV. Over one million kits would be sold in the first year! (Originally invented by George Lerner in 1949, Mr. Potato Head would later be sold to Henry and Merrill Hassenfeld in 1951 (the creators of the toy company Hasbro). In 1995 Mr. Potato Head would make his debut in Hollywood with a leading role in the Disney/Pixar animated feature, “Toy Story.”
Apr. 30, 1958 – The Disney TV show “An Adventure in Art” aired.
Apr. 30, 1961 – The Disney TV show aired “Flash, the Teenage Otter.”
Apr. 30, 1969 – The Disney film “Walt Disney World – Phase 1,” prepared for the Florida Press Conference was shown.
