Apr. 22, 1868 - Flora Call was born to Charles and Henrietta Call in Steuben, Ohio. (Flora is Walt’s mother.) (Passed away Nov. 26, 1938)
Apr. 22, 1906 – Actor Eddie Albert, who appears in Disney’s 1995 “The Barefoot Executive,” the 1982 “Beyond Witch Mountain,” and the 1975 “Escape From Witch Mountain,” was born in Rock Island, Il. (Fans of classic TV know him as Oliver Wendell Douglas from the series Green Acres.)
Apr. 22, 1962 – On this Easter Sunday, the colorful hot air balloon from the 1956 feature film “Around the World in 80 Days” left the Plaza Hub of Disneyland following a traditional old-fashioned Easter Parade down Main Street, U.S.A.
Apr. 22, 1964 – The World’s Fair opened in Flushing, N.Y. President Johnson opened the 1964 season of the fair, the fair featured over 100 pavilions on approximately 646 acres. The fair included 4 Disney attractions.
Apr. 22, 1971 – Award-winning singer –songwriter Kellie Coffey was born in Moore, Ok. It is her voice you hear singing “We Go On” during Epcot’s Illuminations Fireworks show. (Coffey is also the singer in the marketing campaign for “Sharing A Dream Come True.”)
Apr. 22, 1987 – Disney’s unsold TV pilot “Our Planet Tonight” aired on NBC.
Apr. 22, 1990 – The Magical World of Disney aired part-1 of “Spooner.”
Apr. 22, 1991 – A 55-foot-tall oak tree weighing in at nearly 85 tons was moved 12 miles across WDW property. It will serve as a centerpiece for the “Ol’ Man Island” recreation area at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort-Riverside.
Apr. 22, 1994 – The Disney/Touchstone film “The Inkwell” was released.
Apr. 22, 1998 – The 500 acre theme park, “Disney’s Animal Kingdom” opened with 5 attractions, 9 exhibits, 12 live shows, and 11 merchandise locations at WDW.
