Mar. 29, 1790 – John Tyler, the 10th U.S. President, was born in Charles City County, Va. He could be visited along with all the U.S. Chief Executives at the “Hall of Presidents” attraction at the Magic Kingdom at WDW.
Mar. 29, 1909 – Director, writer, and animator Jack Kinney was born in Utah. His long career at the Walt Disney Studios would begin in 1931 as an animator on several shorts, including “Santa’s Workshop,” “The Band Concert,” and “Moose Hunters.” In 1988 Kinney would publish a short memoir, “Walt Disney and Assorted Other Characters: An Unauthorized Account of the Early Years at Disney.”
Mar. 29, 1918 – Entertainer Pearl Bailey, the voice of Big Mama in Disney’s 1981 “The Fox and the Hound” was born in Newport News, Va.
Mar. 29, 1940 – Actor Hal Stalmaster, the star of Disney’s 1957 live-action feature “Johnny Tremain,” was born.
Mar. 29, 1943 – Eric Idle, Dr. Channing of “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience” and “Journey into your Imagination”, and Pluto Angel in “Mickey Mouse Works” was born in England.
Mar. 29, 1951 – Disney won an Academy Award for the short “In Beaver Valley”.
Mar. 29, 1954 – The ABC-Paramount board approved a deal with Walt Disney. In exchange for Walt Disney’s commitment to produce a weekly TV series, ABC-Paramount would contribute $500,000 to Disneyland, guarantee $4.5 million in loans, and become a 34 percent owner in Disneyland, Inc. (The actual contract won’t be signed until Apr. 2nd).
Mar. 29, 1955 – The Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Railway signed a 5-year contract with Disney, paying $50,000 per year in exchange for the name “Santa Fe” and company logo to be used on all Disneyland trains, stations, and literature.
Mar. 29, 1961 – Actress Amy Sedaris, the voice of Foxy Loxy in the 2005 animated feature “Chicken Little,” was born in N.Y.C. (Comedy fans may recognize her from the 2005 Bewitched, the 2003 Elf, and the 1999 TV series Strangers With Candy.)
Mar. 29, 1963 – Disney’s live action feature film “Miracle of the White Stallions”, was released.
