Mar. 9, 1911 – Animator John Lounsbery, one of Walt’s “Nine Old Men”, who contributed to Fantasia, Cinderella, and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, was born in Ohio.
Mar. 9, 1955 – Disney aired the 1st of a 3-part series on ABC titled “Man in Space”, the next 2 episodes were “Man and the Moon”, and “Mars and Beyond”.
Mar. 9, 1975 – The Disney TV show aired “The Footloose Goose.”
Mar. 9, 1980 – Disney’s 2-hour TV movie “The Kids Who Knew Too Much” aired.
Mar. 9, 1984 – Touchtone Pictures, part of the Disney Family, released its 1st film, “Splash”, directed by Ron Howard, and starred, Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah, and John Candy.
Mar. 9, 1984 – Roy Disney Jr. resigned from the Central Board of the Walt Disney Co., setting in motion a series of takeover bids and maneuvering that would actually leave him in control of the company.
Mar. 9, 1985 – The “Main Street Electric Parade” debuted at Tokyo Disneyland. (Ended June 21, 1995)
Mar. 9, 1986 – Disney’s 2-hour TV movie “The Richest Cat in the World” aired.
Mar. 9, 1986 – Actress Brittany Snow, who appeared in Disney’s 2005 comedy feature “The Pacifier,” was born in Tampa, Fl. She also took part in the short-lived TV series Walt Disney World Inside Out.
Mar. 9, 1994 – Previews began for Disney’s newest Broadway stage show “Beauty and the Beast.” (Opening night will be Apr. 18.)
