Mar. 4, 1743 – Swiss author John Wyss was born. His 1812 book “The Swiss Family Robinson” would be brought to the big screen by Disney as Swiss Family Robinson in 1960.
Mar. 4, 1914 – Ward Kimball, Disney animator/director, and one of Walt’s “Nine Old Men”, was born in Minneapolis, Mn. He contributed to the classics Fantasia, Pinocchio, and Dumbo.
Mar. 4, 1932 – Administrator and Disney Legend Frank Wells was born in Coronado, Ca. (In Sept. 1984, he would join The Walt Disney Co. as its President and Chief Operating Officer.)
Mar. 4, 1937 – Disney’s cartoon short “The Country Cousin” won an Oscar at the 9th Annual Academy Awards.
Mar. 4, 1943 – Disney’s “Der Fuehrer’s Face” won an Oscar at the 15th Academy Awards.
Mar. 4, 1949 – Disney’s Pluto cartoon “Pluto’s Surprise Package” was released.
Mar. 4, 1954 – Actress Catherine O’Hara, the voice of Tina in the 2005 animated feature “Chicken Little,” was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She also supplied the voice of Sally for the 1993 “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” (Movie fans would recognize her from Lemony Snicket’s A series of Unfortunate Events, A Mighty Wind, and Home Alone.)
Mar. 4, 1955 – Walt Disney, along with cartoons of Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck, appeared on this week’s issue of TV-Radio Life.
Mar. 4, 1956 – Walt Disney appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. Walt presents a Look Magazine Award to actor Fess Parker for his Davy Crockett role.
Mar. 4, 1960 – The Walt Disney Presents TV show aired episode 12 of “Texas John Slaughter: Geronimo’s Revenge.”
