Feb. 25, 1913 – Actor Jim Backus, who appeared in Disney’s 1977 film “Pete’s Dragon” was born in Cleveland, Oh.
Feb. 25, 1927 – Actor Dickie Jones, who supplied the voice for Disney’s 1940 film “Pinocchio”, was born in Snyder, Tx.
Feb. 25, 1938 – Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoon “Boat Builders” featuring the voices of Walt Disney as Mickey; Pinto Colvig as Goofy; Marcellite Garner as Minnie Mouse, and Clarence Nash as Donald Duck, directed by Ben Sharpsteen (also directed Dumbo) was released.
Feb. 25, 1939 – One of the most prominent and influential architects of the first half of the 20th century, Frank Lloyd Wright visited the Disney Studio on Hyperion Avenue in Hollywood for an informal discussion with Walt’s staff.
Feb. 25, 1942 – Walt Disney was among four to receive a special Academy Award, the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award (given to creative producers).
Feb. 25, 1962 – The NBC-TV series Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color aired part-2 of “Comancho.”
Feb. 25, 1965 – Disney’s film “Mary Poppins” was nominated for 13 Academy Awards including Best Picture.
Feb. 25, 1965 – Shawnte Northcutte, a member of the 1977-1978 TV show “The New Mouseketeers” was born.
Feb. 25, 1968 – Disney’s part-1 of its 2-part TV movie “The Young Loner” aired. (Part-2 aired Mar. 3, 1968)
Feb. 25, 1971 – Recording artist Daniel Powter was born in British Columbia. Best known for his piano driven pop single “Bad Day,” the singer/songwriter penned “The World You’ve Dreamed of Lately,” a song for Disney’s “Where Dreams Come True” marketing campaign.
