Feb. 12, 1809 – Abraham Lincoln (our 16th president) was born in Hardin County, Kentucky. He would be the subject of such Disney attractions as Greatest Moments with Mr. Lincoln (originally displayed at the 1964 World’s Fair) and WDW’s Hall of Presidents.
Feb. 12, 1934 - Walt Disney Productions filed an application for a trademark for “Mickey Mouse”.
Feb. 12, 1942 – Disney’s animated feature “Pinocchio” was released in Chile.
Feb. 12, 1945 – Disney’s Educational film “The Right Spark Plug in the Right Place” made for Electric Auto-Lite Co. was released.
Feb. 12, 1951 - Disney’s “Cinderella” was nominated for 3 Academy Awards and the short “In Beaver Valley” was nominated for 1.
Feb. 12, 1958 – At Todd Shipyards in Long Beach, Ca., the steel hull of Disneyland’s newest ship “Columbia” was completed. (It is the only 3-masted windjammer constructed in the U.S. for over 100 years. The vessel would be transported and installed in the Rivers of America where the rest of the construction would be completed.
Feb. 12, 1960 – The Walt Disney Presents TV show aired episode 9 of “Texas John Slaughter: Desperado from Tombstone.”
Feb. 12, 1964 – The live-action Disney feature “The Misadventures of Merlin Jones,” starring Tommy Kirks, Annette Funicello, and Leon Ames, premiered in Florida.
Feb. 12, 1973 – Actress, voice-over artist, comedian, musician, and singer Tara Strong was born in Toronto, Canada. Best known for voice acting in animated films and TV, she is the voice of JuJu (Mama Odie’s pet snake and apprenticed in Disney’s 2009 “The Princess and the Frog.”
Feb. 12, 1988 – Illusionist Siegfried and Roy appeared to make Sleeping Beauty Castle disappear during a national broadcast TV special “Disney’s Magic in the Magic Kingdom.”
