Feb. 11, 1918 – Animator, Imagineer, sculptor and Disney Legend Blaine Gibson was born in Rocky Ford, Co. (He would create hundreds of sculptures from which Audio-Animatronics figures and bronzes would be produced for exhibits in the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair and Disney theme park around the world. Among his contributions will be Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, and Enchanted Tiki Room. He would also sculpt all 41 U.S. Presidents, including Bill Clinton, for the Hall of Presidents at WDW.)
Feb. 11, 1926 – Actor Leslie Nielson was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. His Disney credits include “Santa Who?” and the TV series “Swamp Fox.”
Feb. 11, 1932 – Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoon “The Grocery Boy” was released.
Feb. 11, 1938 - Disney’s Donald Duck cartoon “Self Control” was released. Clarence Nash was the voice of Donald Duck.
Feb. 11, 1949 - The Disney Donald Duck short “Donald’s Happy Birthday” was released.
Feb. 11, 1952 - Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” was nominated for an Academy Award.
Feb. 11, 1968 – Disney aired “My Family is a Menagerie” on television.
Feb. 11, 1969 – It was announced in Miami, Fl. that a 3-year project agreement has been signed between Allen Contracting Co., as general contractor, and the presidents of the 17 individual international unions, which would be involved in constructing the first phase of WDW. The contract assures continuity of construction by making strikes and other work stoppages unnecessary.
Feb. 11, 1970 - Variety reported that Walt Disney had secretly taken its movie, “Song of the South” out of circulation back in 1958. The publication claimed the movie was pulled because of racist attitude in the film.
Feb. 11, 1970 – The Disney film “King of the Grizzlies” was released.
