Feb. 8, 1828 - Writer Jules Verne, known for his classic novel, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” whose work influenced Walt Disney, was born in Nates France.
Feb. 8, 1872 - The 1st performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “AIDA” took place in Milan, Italy.
Feb. 8, 1886 – Actor Charles Ruggles was born in Los Angeles, Ca. His Disney credits include “Follow Me, Boys!,” The Ugly Dachshund,” and “Son of Flubber.” )Cartoon fans will remember him as the narrator of the “Aesop’s Fables” segment of the animated “The Bullwinkle Show.”
Feb. 8, 1932 - Composer John Williams, whose music is used in Star Tours and Indiana Jones, at Disney-MGM Studios and Disneyland Paris was born in New York.
Feb. 8, 1952 - The Disney animated film “Lambert, The Sheepish Lion” was released.
Feb. 8, 1953 - Walt Disney appeared as a guest on a one-hour special tribute of Ed Sullivan’s hit TV show “The Toast of the Town”.
Feb. 8, 1955 - The Disneyland Oriented TV show aired, showing the progress of construction of Disneyland.
Feb. 8, 1956 – The Disney TV show aired “Survival in Nature.”
Feb. 8, 1965 – Julie Andrews received a Golden Globe Award for her role in Disney’s Mary Poppins.
Feb. 8, 1967 – Sherie Rene Scott, an actress, singer and writer was born in Topeka, Ks. (Among her Broadway Disney credits – Amneris in Elton John and Tim Rice’s “Aida,” for which she won the Clarence Derwent Award, and the original role of Ursula in “The Little Mermaid,” for which she received her second Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical.
