Feb. 6, 1859 - Elias Disney, father of Walt Disney, was born in Bluevale, Ontario, Canada. (Passed Away Sept. 13, 1941)
Feb. 6, 1911 – Our 40th U.S. president Ronald Reagan was born in Tampico, Il. Besides being immortalized in WDW’s Hall of Presidents attraction, Reagan took part in Disneyland’s opening day TV broadcast in July 1955.
Feb. 6, 1914 - Thurl Ravenscroft, the voice of Sherekahn in “The Jungle Book”, “the Knight in “The Sword and the Stone,” and the Captain in “101 Dalmatians” was born in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Feb. 6, 1928 - Disney’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon “The Ol’ Swimmin’ Ole” was released.
Feb. 6, 1931 – Actor Rip Torn was born in Tempe, Tx. His Disney credits include the 1999 TV movie “Balloon Farm” as Harvey H. Potter, and the voice of Zeus in the 1997 animated feature “Hercules.” (You may recognize Torn from the Men in Black film series and from TV’s The Larry Sanders Show.)
Feb. 6, 1937 – Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoon “Magician Mickey” was released.
Feb. 6, 1938 - The music from Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was nominated for an Academy Award.
Feb. 6, 1943 - Disney’s animated feature film “Saludos Amigos” was released.
Feb. 6, 1948 - Disney’s Goofy cartoon “The Big Wash” was released.
Feb. 6, 1956 – Actor-musician Jon Walmsley was born in Lancashire, England. At age 12 he would supply the voice to Christopher Robin in Disney’s Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day. (TV fans would recognize him from his role of Jason on the Waltons.
