I just read this...

Back in 2006, when MNF and SNF swapped channels, NBC wanted Al Michaels to do the Play by Play but Disney wasn't going to let him out of his contract without some sort of compensation. So, Disney requested all the rights to the "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit' in return for Al Michaels' contract.

So, that is how Disney got back the rights to Oswald.

Yes this is true. Plus Al only had one more year left on his contract and NBC didnt want to split up Al and John Madden to make the switch from ABC to NBC. Cause Universal(owns NBC) held the rights to Oswald cause at the time Walt had to use diffrent distibutors to get his movies out. They had a conflict in pay and what not Walt lost the rights to Oswald cause it was used as collateral. Thus then Mickey was born right after. Not to mention they did a Treausres Collection of Oswald it's very cool.
