Jan. 31, 1937 – Actress Suzanne Pleshette, the voice of Zira in Disney’s 1998 “The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride,” was born in N.Y.C.
Jan. 31, 1943 – Disney’s animated feature “Pinocchio” was released in Finland.
Jan. 31, 1956 - A.A. Milne, the creator of Winnie-the-Pooh, died in Harfield, Sussex.
Jan. 31, 1960 – The “Sunkist Citrus House” shop opened on Main Street at Disneyland. (Closed Jan. 3, 1989)
Jan. 31, 1971 - Actress Minnie Driver, the voice of Jane Porter in “Tarzan” was born in London, England.
Jan. 31, 1978 – Disney animator Ollie Johnson and Frank Thomas retired together. (on the very date Ollie was hired.) They would both go on to author several books, give lectures and consult on film projects.
Jan. 31, 1981 - Justin Timberlake, of the singing group NSYNC, was a member of the 90’s TV show “The All New Mouseketeers” was born in Memphis, Tennessee.
Jan. 31, 1986 – The Disney film “Down and Out in Beverly Hills,” starring Nick Nolte, Bette Midler, Richard Dreyfuss, Little Richard, Tracy Nelson, Elizabeth Pena, Evan Richards, and Donald F. Muhich, was released.
Jan. 31, 1987 – It was reported that Delta Air Lines would spend about $18 million over the next 10 years for a promotional tie-in with Disney World, replacing its rival, Eastern Airlines, as the official airline of the Florida resort.
Jan. 31, 1988 – Quarterback Doug Williams of the Washington Redskins announced, “I’m going to Disneyland!” following his team’s win over the Denver Broncos at Super Bowl XXII in San Diego.
