Jan. 25, 1864 – Author Lewis Carroll asked illustrator Sir John Tenniel to illustrate his story Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Jan. 25, 1905 – Author Margery Sharp was born in Wiltshire, England. She would write 26 novels for adults, 14 stories for children, 4 plays, 2 mysteries, and numerous short stories. Sharp’s most famous work The Rescuers (A series about a mouse) would be adapted into 2 Disney animated films, “The Rescuers” and “The Rescuers Down Under.”
Jan. 25, 1931 - Actor Dean Jones who starred in the Disney films; “The Love Bug”, “The Ugly Dachshung,” and “That Darn Cat” was born in Morgan City, Alabama.
Jan. 25, 1938 – Disney animator Art Babbitt and other unhappy employees, who believe they need to create a federation for representation, held a general membership meeting at the American Legion Hall in Hollywood, Ca. The group elected Babbitt as president of the Cartoonists Federation.
Jan. 25, 1938 - Rhythm & Blues singer Etta James whose version of “It’s a Small World/ When You Wish Upon a Star Medley” which appeared on the CD Disney’s Music From the Park was born in Los Angeles, Ca.
Jan. 25, 1957 – Film and television actress Jennifer Lewis, the voice of Mama Odie in Disney’s 2009 “The Princess and the Frog,” was born in Missouri. Back in 1987, Lewis was hired as a pre-show announcer on the “Star Tours” attraction at Disneyland.
Jan. 25, 1961 - Disney’s 17th animated feature “101 Dalmatians” premiered.
Jan. 25, 1985 – Composer and Disney Legend Paul Smith passed away in Glendale, Ca. He wrote background music for nearly every Disney True-Life Adventure film and received an Oscar (along with Leigh Harline and Ned Washington) for the music in Pinocchio.
Jan. 25, 1987 – The Wonderful World of Disney aired “Double Switch.”
Jan. 25, 1987 – Super Bowl XXI was played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Ca. The halftime show was a Disney production called “Salute to Hollywood’s 100th Anniversary,” featuring Southern California – area High School drill teams and dancers. The New York Giants won over the Denver Broncos, 39-20.
