Jan. 24, 1776 – German romantic and fantasy author/composer Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffman was born in Prussia. His work The Nutcracker Suite would be featured in Disney’s 1940 “Fantasia.”
Jan. 24, 1906 - Director and animator Wilfred Jackson who directed over 60 Disney animated films, was born in Chicago, Il.
Jan. 24, 1927 – Disney’s Alice Comedy “Alice Foils the Pirates” was released.
Jan. 24, 1930 - Walt Disney signed a contract with King Features for his Mickey Mouse comic strip.
Jan. 24, 1941 – Disney’s Pluto cartoon “Pluto’s Playmate” was released.
Jan. 24, 1953 – Musician Mathew Wilder, best known for his 1983 hit song Break My Stride, was born in N.Y.C. In 1998 he lent his singing voice to the character of Ling and was nominated for an Academy Award for Original Music Score (along with David Zippel and Jerry Goldsmith) for his work on the Disney animated film “Mulan.”
Jan. 24, 1964 – Disney’s animated and live-action film prepared for the Bell System Science Series “The Restless Sea” was released.
Jan. 24, 1965 - Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color premiered its new series “Gallegher (Boy Reporter)”.
Jan. 24, 1986 – Ricky Ullman, the star of Disney Channel’s “Phil of the Future” was born in Eilat, Israel. (Shortly after his first birthday his family would move to Fairfield, Ct.) He also appears in Disney’s 2004 made-for-TV movie “Pixel Perfect” and is the voice of Eric for the 2005 “Kim Possible: So The Drama.”
Jan. 24, 1986 – Disney’s one-hour television special “Disney’s Living Seas” aired on NBC-TV.
