Jan. 5, 1913 – Animator, director, writer and Disney Legend Jack Hannah was born in Arizona. At the Walt Disney Studio’s he would start as an animator before helping Carl Barks (the man who drew the comic book adventures of Donald Duck) created his first two comic book stories. Hannah would later go on to direct some 94 Disney animated films.
Jan. 5, 1931 - Al Taliaferro was hired at the Disney Studios, and in 1938 began working on the Donald Duck daily comic strips.
Jan. 5, 1932 - Disney’s 26th Silly Symphony film directed by Wilfred Jackson, “The Bird Store” was completed and would be released later that year.
Jan. 5, 1935 - Disney’s Silly Symphony “The Tortoise and the Hare” was released.
Jan. 5, 1945 – Disney’s Goofy cartoon “Tiger Trouble” was released.
Jan. 5, 1951 – Disney’s Goofy cartoon “Lion Down” was released.
Jan. 5, 1951 – Hayao Miyazaki, a prominent filmmaker of many popular animated feature films, was born in Tokyo, Japan. American fans know him from Howl’s Moving Castle (distributed by Buena Vista Entertainment in the U.S.) and the Oscar-winning Spirited Way (distributed by Walt Disney Pictures in the U.S.)
Jan. 5, 1955 – The Disneyland TV series aired part-1 of Disney’s 1950 live-action adventure film “Treasure Island.”
Jan. 5, 1957 – This day’s issue of the Saturday Evening Post (a weekly magazine) ran an article about Walt Disney.
Jan. 5, 1964 – Disney’s part-1 of its 2-part TV movie “The Ballad of Hector the Stowaway Dog” aired. (Part-2 aired Jan. 12, 1964)
