Dec. 27, 1940 – Disney’s Pluto cartoon “Pantry Pirate” was released.
Dec. 27, 1954 – Walt Disney appeared on the cover of TIME magazine (for the 2nd time). The issue featured an article titled “Father Goose.”
Dec. 27, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Today is Guest Star Day” on ABC-TV.
Dec. 27, 1969 – Critic, reporter & columnist Sarah Vowell, the voice of Violet Parr in Disney/Pixar’s “The Incredibles,” was born in Muskogee, Ok. (She is best known for her bits on public radio’s “This American Life.”
Dec. 27, 1996 – Today was the last day of work for the Walt Disney Company President “Micheal Ovitz.”
Dec. 27, 2001 – The University of Miami Hurricanes and the University of Nebraska Corn Huskers (scheduled to play in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 3, 2002) made their 1st official southern California appearance at Disney’s California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort. The event was called “Welcome to California.”
Dec. 27, 2002 – The event “I Just Want to Fly” was held at Disney’s California Adventure to welcome the 2003 Rose Bowl Teams, the Oklahoma Sooners and the Washington State Cougars. The acapella group “Groove 66” kicked off the festivities.
Dec. 27, 2005 – Disney’s 2-disc Collector’s Edition DVD “Toy Story 2” was released.
Dec. 27, 2005 – Composer Phil Collins and the cast of Disney’s newest stage musical “Tarzan” began rehearsals in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Dec. 27, 2006 – Holiday crowds were so thick at WDW this afternoon that three parks closed to direct traffic at times. Because they have reached capacity, the Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom both closed at 1:15pm. At Disney-MGM Studios there were parking issues, and traffic was diverted away from the main parking lots for a couple of hours after 3pm.
