Dec. 9, 1992 – The National Hockey League awarded Disney a hockey franchise (the team would become known as The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim).
Dec. 9, 1994 – Disney animators moved into their Riverside Drive building in Hollywood, Ca. The building became known as “The Hat Building” because it featured the large conical “Scorcerer’s Hat” at the front entrance.
Dec. 9, 1994 – The restaurant “Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café” opened in Tomorrowland at WDW replacing the “Tomorrowland Terrace.”
Dec. 9, 1994 – The Disneyana Fun Fair took place at the West Coast Anaheim Hotel.
Dec. 9, 1996 – Walt Disney Records released “Dog Songs,” in celebration of Walt Disney Pictures live-action “101 Dalmatians.” It featured performances by such artists as Lobo, Patti Page, The Monkees, Harry Nilsson, and Dr. John.
Dec. 9, 2002 – “Disney’ Aladdin – Live On Stage” began performances at the Hyperion Theatre in Disney’s California Adventure.
Dec. 9, 2002 – The soft opening of “Tower of Terror 4” (featuring new random drop sequences) began for guests at Disney-MGM Studios in WDW.
Dec. 9, 2003 – Walt Disney Home Video released the first two volumes of the Disney Channel Lizzie McGuire series to DVD. “Fashionably Lizzie” and “Growing Up Lizzie” feature individual episodes from the popular series.
Dec. 9, 2005 – Walt Disney Pictures released “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.”
Dec. 9, 2005 – Florida’a First Lady Columba Bush and Florida Department of Education Chancellor Cheri Pierson Yecke helped open the new “Journey Into Nrnia: Creating The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” attraction in Disney-MGM Studios at WDW.
