Nov. 16, 2004 – Disney’s made-for-TV adaptation of the popular book “A Wrinkle in Time” by Madeline L’Engle (which aired spring 2004) was released on DVD.
Nov. 16, 2004 – Disney’s Wonderful World of Disney television movie “Eloise at Christmastime,” starring Julie Andrews and Sofia Vassilieva, was released on DVD.
Nov. 16, 2004 – The attraction “Stitch the Escape” opened to guests in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom at WDW. (Replaced “The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter)
Nov. 16, 2004 – It was announced that Mickey Mouse would be the Grand Marshal for the 2005 Tournament of Roses Parade (to be held Jan. 1, 2005 in Pasadena, Ca.)
Nov. 16, 2006 – “Mary Poppins” a new Broadway Stage musical, opened at Disney’s New Amsterdam Theater in N.Y.C.
Nov. 16, 2007 – Eustace Lycett, a 43-year Disney veteran who won Academy Awards for his special photographic effects in “Mary Poppins” and “Bedknobs and Broomsticks,” passed away in Fullerton, Ca. Lycett began with Disney in 1937, when he first project was to assist with the design and construction of the multiplane camera. For much of his career at Disney, he served as director of Special Visual Effects, and created f/x for features including “Song of the South,” “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” “The Shaggy Dog,” “The Absent-Minded Professor,” “Swiss Family Robinson,” “The Love Bug,” and “The Black Hole.”
Nov. 16, 2007 – The “Season’s Joy At Disneyland” began for this holiday season at Disneyland. (Ran through Jan. 6, 2008)
Nov. 16, 2007 – Walt Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” 70th Anniversary Event took place at Disney’s California Adventure Park. (Snow White would actually turn 70 on Dec. 21st.)
Nov. 16, 2007 – At Ten Star Ranch in Dubois, In., Mickey Mouse (dressed as a Pilgrim) introduced the two real-life Turkeys who would receive presidential pardons from U.S. President George W. Bush at the White House on Tuesday Nov. 20th at the 60th annual National Thanksgiving Turkey presentation (following their presidential pardons, the turkeys would join Super Bowl Stars and other celebrities by “Going to Disney World” for a celebrity parade in their honor on Thanksgiving Day!)
Nov. 16, 2007 – It was reported that Tim Burton has signed a two-picture deal with Disney to direct and produce 3-D movies of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” and a remake of Burton’s own “Frankenweenie.” The “Alice” adaptation would be a combination of live-action and performance capture. “rankenweenie” would be shot in stop-motion animation.
