Oct. 27, 1998 – Disney’s “The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride” was released direct-to-video.
Oct. 27, 2000 – Officials from the Disney Stores, along with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, opened a second prototype Disney Store at the Cherry Hill Mall in New Jersey.
Oct. 27, 2000 – The Disney film “Playing Mona Lisa” was released.
Oct. 27, 2000 – “Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party” (dates 27th, 29th, 31st) began in the Magic Kingdom at WDW.
Oct. 27, 2001 – The Los Angeles Times reported that the Walt Disney Co. is expected to announce one of its poorest quarters in nearly 10 years, due to the terrorist attacks that happened the previous month.
Oct. 27, 2001 – The Orlando Sentinel reported that security measures against anthrax have reached WDW. The resort replaced all powdered-soap dispensers at its 4 theme parks and installed new liquid hand cleaner dispensers.
Oct. 27, 2002 – Disney helped kick-off the annual Toys for Tots campaign by donating toys at the world premiere of “The Santa Claus 2,” held at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, Ca. (An original sponsor of Toys for Tots since its inception in 1947, Walt Disney personally designed the original Toys for Tots logo, which is still used today.
Oct. 27, 2002 – The Disney-owned Anaheim Angels won their 1st World Series Championship with a 4-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants in game 7 at Edison Field in Anaheim.
Oct. 27, 2004 – The Boston Red Sox won their first World Series Championship since 1918, with a 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in St. Louis. Immediately following the game, pitchers Curt Schilling and Pedro Martinez and slugger David Ortiz looked into television cameras and say the famous words “I’m going to Disney World!” for the world-famous Disney commercial.
Oct. 27, 2007 – The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 6.5K and 13K, the first night races were part of the celebration of the 13th Anniversary of the “Twilight Zone Tower of Terror” attraction at Disney-MGM Studios at WDW. The 13K (8.1 mile) road race began and ended in the shadows of the tower!
