Can a discount be applied later to the reservation?

If I hypothetically book a room at Grand Californian for November 2010 NOW, as it gets closer to that date, if a promo code comes out, can I apply that to my reservation or do I have to cancel my reservation and re-book?

As previously stated yes you can. I have done this on a WDW trip and it even reduced the cost of my vacation and Disney refunded my credit card.
