Recycled Art Ideas

Anyone have cool recycled art ideas? Need some for school....like making butterflies out of two liter bottles, mosaics out of bottle caps, etc. What have you?

We actually had an artist visit our school to make recycled jewelry. The kids had to bring in anything small - buttons, beads, pop top or zipper pulls, wire etc. (You can coil the wire up or twist into intersting shapes.) These items were glued onto small laminate chips, you know the size you get from the hardware store for samples. After the glue had dried they covered everything in metallic paint. Some turned out really nice.

You can turn empty glass bottles/jars into other things using masking tape & shoe polish. You just take the masking tape roll and rip off small pieces and put them on the bottle until the entire thing is covered (overlap pieces). Then rub on some creme shoe polish, leave on for 5 minutes, and wipe off excess. The result is a faux leather look. You can seal it with decoupage glue or spray sealer. Depending on the choice of glass you can make candle holders, jewelry holders, paper clip holders, etc.
