Aug. 24, 1989 – The “Ewok Village” shop opened at the entrance of Star Tours in Disney-MGM Studios.
Aug. 24, 1992 – Tokyo Disneyland welcomed its 120-millionth guest.
Aug. 24, 1994 – After months of rumors that Jeffrey Katzenburg will exit as chairman of Walt Disney Studios, the company announced he would step down in Sept., at the end of his contract, and that Caravan Pictures producer Joe Roth would take over.
Aug. 24, 2001 – The Lizzie McGuire episode “Educating Ethan” debuted on the Disney Channel.
Aug. 24, 2001 - The Power of Blast! Closed at The American Adventure in Epcot.
Aug. 24, 2001 – The Disney/Touchstone Picture film “Bubble Boy” was released.
Aug. 24, 2002 – Disney’s California Adventure hosted the 1st ever “ABC Primetime Preview Weekend.” Actors John Ritter and Kaley Cuoco were on hand for the 2-day event.
Aug. 24, 2002 - Blast II: Shockwave! Closed at The American Adventure.
Aug. 24, 2005 – Aly & AJ, recording artists and co-stars of Disney Channel’s “Phil of the Future,” began a 5-day run at Disneyland. They will perform at the Club Buzzstage 4 times a day.
Aug. 24, 2006 – It was reported that two white rhinos have taken their first steps on African soil after being flown into the country from Disney’s Animal Kingdom to boost stocks. (The two bring the numbered of endangered white rhinos in the country to just eight.) They were released in the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola district, about 110 miles northwest of Uganda’s capital Kampala after a 4-day journey from their home in Florida.
