Aug. 22, 1956 – The “Carefree Corner” guest registration area opened on Main Street at Disneyland.
Aug. 22, 1996 – Imagineer Al Bertino, who helped design Disneyland attractions and animated Disney’s 1946 “Make Mine Music,” passed away. Big Al, the animated bear in Country Bear Jamboree is based on Bertino.
Aug. 22, 1997 – The Disney/Hollywood Pictures Film “G.I. Jane” was released.
Aug. 22, 1999 - The Rose & Crown Pub and Rose & Crown Dining Room reopened in the United Kingdom after being renovated.
Aug. 22, 2002 – Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones performed together at Disney’s California Adventure.
Aug. 22, 2002 – The 2002 Disneyana Mystery Event took place at Epcot’s World ShowPlace.
Aug. 22, 2003 – The Disney Channel aired the “That’s So Raven” episode “Phychics Wanted” for the first time.
Aug. 22, 2004 – The attraction “Jungle Cruise” in Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom in WDW closed for rehab. (Reopened Sept. 6, 2004)
Aug. 22, 2006 – It was reported that Celebration, the Florida community Disney created in Osceola County, would be getting its 3rd hotel. Mona Lisa Development, the U.S. affiliate of Mona Lisa Hotels and Residences of France, was partnering with the Related Group of Florida, one of the state’s biggest condo builders, to build a 450-room Condo hotel in the southern part of Celebration.
Aug. 22, 2008 – The Disney Channel Original Movie “The Cheetah Girls One World” aired for the first time.
