Aug. 17, 1999 – The Disney Wonder made its first call on Castaway Cay.
Aug. 17, 2001 – The Disney Channel Original Movie “Jumping Ship” premiered.
Aug. 17, 2001 – The Lizzie McGuire episode “Gordo and the Girl” aired on the Disney Channel.
Aug. 17, 2002 – The Orlando Rays, the Class AA affiliate of Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Devil Rays, took on the Carolina Mudcats (for the first of a 4-game series) at Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in WDW.
Aug. 17, 2004 – Disney released “The Three Musketeers,” starring Mickey, Donald, and Goofy on video and DVD.
Aug. 17, 2006 – Disney announced that Meg Gilbert Crofton, a 27-year veteran, has been named the new President of WDW. She is the fourth executive to lead WDW since it opened in 1971, and the first female to ever hold that position at the Florida resort.
Aug. 17, 2007 – The Disney Channel Original Movie “High School Musical 2” aired for the first time.
Aug. 17, 2007 – Disney Channel debuted a sneak peek of the new animated series “Phineas and Ferb” with the episode “Rollercoaster.”
Aug. 17, 2007 – Hollywood Records recording artist “The Jonas Brothers” appeared on the new “Hannah Montana” episode “Me and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas.”
Aug. 17, 2007 – WDW released a commemorative pin honoring “Kitchen Kabaret” as part of its “White Glove Remember When” series. “Kitchen Kabaret,” an original Epcot attraction, was an Audio-Animatronic show which closed in 1994.
