Aug. 16, 1973 – Santa Rosa Land Company, Inc. (which owns some of the WDW Resort) changed its name to Walt Disney Travel Company, Inc.
Aug. 16, 1976 – TIME magazine featured the article “Running Disney Walt’s Way” in this weeks issue.
Aug. 16, 1999 – The Disney Wonder, the sister ship to the Disney Magic, set sail on its inaugural cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida.
Aug. 16, 2004 – WDW announced relief efforts for Central Florida families and Cast Members impacted by Hurricane Charley.
Aug. 16, 2005 – This day’s Disney DVD release included “Walt Disney’s Timeless Tales: Volume 1,” (containing 5 classic animated shorts including “The Three Little Pigs,) “Walt Disney’s Timeless Tales: Volume 2” (containing 4 classic animated shorts including “The Ugly Duckling,” “Pom Poko,” “My Neighbors the Yamadas,” “That’s So Raven: Disguise the Limit,” and “Phil of the Future: Gadgets and Gizmos.”

Aug. 16, 2005 – Walt Disney Records released the “Valiant Soundtrsck” (featuring music from the newest computer-animated comedy-adventure opening nationwide August 19, 2005.)
Aug. 16, 2005 – Tragedy struck when Joe Ranft, the widely respected story artist for many Disney/Pixar features, was killed in an automobile accident in California. The 45-year-old was one of seven writers nominated for an Academy Award for best original screenplay for the 1995 “Toy Story.”
Aug. 16, 2007 – The United States Post Office debuted a new set of four 41-cent Disney character stamps at WDW. Honoring the theme of magic, the stamps feature Dumbo & Timothy Mouse, Peter Pan & Tinkerbell, Mickey Mouse as “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” and Aladdin& Genie.
