July 7, 1997 – Disneyland’s monorail began operating in only one direction due to the construction of Disney’s California Adventure.
July 7, 1998 – Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” broke the record for the longest-running show on Broadway with its 1,762nd performance at the Palace Theatre in N.Y.C.
July 7, 2000 – Voice actress June Foray, the voice of Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Tweety Bird’s Granny, and the Disney animated character Lucifer in “Cinderella” received her star on Hollywood Blvd.’s Walk of Fame.
July 7, 2000 – The Disney Ambassador Hotel located at the Tokyo Disneyland Resort opened to guests.
July 7, 2000 – Disney’s “The Kid” starring Bruce Willis, Spencer Breslin, and Lily Tomlin was released.
July 7, 2000 – The “Ikspiari” shopping, dining, and entertainment area opened at Tokyo DisneySea.
July 7, 2003 – Disneyland foreman and attractions host Chuck Abbott passed away. A 36-year veteran of the park, he worked directly with Walt Disney during the planning and construction of “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Abbott would be named a Disney Legend in 2005 (a first for an hourly theme park Cast Member.)
July 7, 2004 – Radio Disney debuts on the Music Choice Network, which allows digital cable and satellite TV homes and cable-modem subscribers to hear the popular family station at digital quality.
July 7, 2006 – The Disney movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” opened in theaters.
July 7, 2006 – The new live pirate training show featuring Captain Jack Sparrow began its daily performances in front of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” attraction in the Magic Kingdom at WDW. (Ran through the end of Aug. 2006)
