June 16, 2000 – “Fantasia/2000” (the sequel to the Disney classic) opened at movie theaters nationwide.
June 16, 2001 – “The Power of Blast!” debuted at Epcot’s America Gardens Theatre. (The show would run through August.)
June 16, 2002 – The premiere screening of “Lilo & Stitch” took place at Disney’s El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Ca. Among the guests in attendance were actors Jason Scott lee, the voice of David Kawena; David Ogden Stiers, the voice of Jumba; Kevin McDonald, the voice of Pleakley; country singer Wyonna Judd, who performed the Elvis Presley song “Burning Love” on the films soundtrack, Phil Collins, Fred Willard, Olympian Bruce Jenner, and Danny Bonaduce.
June 16, 2002 – The Pyewacket, a vessel owned by the Disney Corp. and skippered by Roy Disney, won the Newport to Bermuda Yacht Race. They broke the record by 3 hrs. 52 minutes, 22 seconds; crossing the finish line in 53 hrs. 39 minutes 22 seconds.
June 16, 2004 – The Walt Disney Pictures/ Walden Media Film, “Around the World in 80 Days” was released in theaters. It is a remake of the classic 1956 film.
June 16, 2004 – Disney’s family stage production “Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh” had its first performance in Christchurch, New Zealand.
June 16, 2005 – Hong Kong Disneyland opened two shops at the Hong Kong International Airport to sell thousands of souvenirs with the theme of Hong King Disneyland (which is scheduled to open on Sept. 12, 2005.)
June 16, 2006 – The Disney Channel Original Movie “Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior,” aired for the first time.
June 16, 2007 – The “Hannah Montana” episode “Take This Job and Love It!” aired on the Disney Channel.
June 16, 2007 – The “Leave a Legacy” program which consists of more than 550,000 tiles at the entrance of Epcot was discontinued.
