What are the Vinalmation Mickeys? I saw these everywhere and I wanted to get one but wasn't sure what was inside? If anyone could explain I would appreciate it...

They are these decorated vinyl Mickey's that come in a cardboard box. You don't know which design you are getting until after you buy it and open it. It's a blind purchase. IMHO, a waste of money.
Yeah, it is pretty lame, because there is no way to guarantee you don't get the exact same one you just bought for $10. To me it is a real bad thing, because there is no incentive for me to gamble another $10 - for instance, if I buy the trading pins blind, I may not get what I wanted or I may get a duplicate of something I already have, BUT if nothing else I have something I can trade. With these, you are just stuck with what you get. It doesn't make any sense to me to go out and buy another....

I didn't realize that. They just seemed kind of ugly. I don't get it.

Yea, I never really understood the reasoning behind them being a blind purchase. There were only a few designs I would like to have, but I wouldn't be willing to gamble that I would end up with one I would be unhappy with.

Blind packages are very popular in Japan. When I collect something that comes in a blind package I try to find a friend that wants them too that way if we get one that the other doesnt have we can trade them. Its a concept that hasn't really caught on in America.

My daughter was very into these on our trip. I made her spend HER money on them.
The way she managed to avoid the risk of duplication was to buy from a different series each time. She got one Snow White one, one wintery one (from holiday collection), and one that's purply and blue, I think. She liked the blind purchase part, but I could see it being frustrating if you were trying to complete a collection.

ok....I don't get it either, but my DS 13yo does!!
I can equate them to Anime figures

All I could think about when I saw these things is McDonalds/Disney Happy Meals - you might end up with five of the same figure, when all you wanted was a specific one! :mickey:

I actually thought these were a great idea and my sister and Ibought 3 when we were there. We got one like the alien in toystory, one chocolate one and one snowman one. It is a bit frustrating if you want a specific one though

:mickey: I like these. I purchased two when were in Disney in August. I asked the CM what the deal with them are. She told me Disney wanted to bring out an item that would be interesting to boys.
I got a Alien from Toy Story and a Dalmation. Love them. My DD and I had a blast trying to pick a box. We laughed and laughed because we accused each other of buying two of the same. We finally opened them when we got home and they sit on my mantel. I am 51 my sister is a little older, she came over and now has tried to steal my dalmation three times!! If you want a complete set you can buy them. I personally got a kick out of them. I would love the snowman.
We have a collection of the Happy meal dogs too. We have traded them. It is just something fun.
Gives us a reason to plan another Disney trip.
