Apr. 21, 2001 – In celebration of the opening of Disney’s California Adventure, a special commemorative lithograph signing featuring Senior Concept Designer Rennie Marquez took place at Off the Page in Disney’s newest park.
Apr. 21, 2002 – At Walt’s Carolwood Barn, there was a gathering of past and present Imagineers hosted by The Carolwood Pacific Historical Society for “Imagineering Appreciation Day.”
Apr. 21, 2003 – Actress Hilary Duff appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” promoting her new Disney feature “The Lizzie McGuire Movie.”
Apr. 21, 2004 – The New York City production of Beauty and the Beast performed its 4,093rd show making it the 6th longest running musical in Broadway history.
Apr. 21, 2005 – At sunset, an advertisement for Disney’s landmark production of “The Lion King” became the first imagery on a new 2,500-square foot electronic display in N.Y.C. The sign, located at the top of the western façade of the Durst Organization’s 48-story Flagship Tower at 4 Times Square, incorporates a revolutionary high-resolution, energy savings technology. The Lion King (now in its 8th year on Broadway) will occupy the display, which is readable to viewers as far away as the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, for several weeks.
Apr. 21, 2006 – The U.S. Postal Service released the third and final set of “The Art of Disney” stamp series “Romance,” featuring “Mickey and Minnie,” “Belle and Beast,” Lady and the Tramp,” and “Cinderella and Prince Charming.”
Apr. 21, 2006 – The 13th annual “Epcot Flower Garden Festival” began at WDW along with “The Flower Power Concert Series” at America Garden Stage. Guest performers included “The Nelsons”-Apr. 21-24, “The Buckinghams,”- Apr.25-27, “Gary Puckett,” Apr. 28-May 1, “The Grass Roots,”-May 2-4, “Paul Revere & the Raiders,”-May 5-8, “The Association,” May 9-11, “Davy Jones,”-May 12-15, “The Tokens,”-May 16-18, “B.J. Thomas,”-May 19-22, “Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals,”-May23-25, “The Guess Who,”-May 26-29, “Tony Orlando,”-May 30-June1, “Arlo Guthrie,”-June 2-5, “The Turtles,”-June 6-7, “Herman’s Hermits,”-June 8-11. (the event ended June 11)
Apr. 21, 2006 – The “Hannah Montana” episode “It’s My Party And I’ll Lie If I Want To” aired for the first time on the Disney Channel.
Apr. 21, 2006 – “Disney Live! Mickey’s Magic Show” (The 2nd touring production produced by Field Entertainment) premiered in Columbia, S.C.
Apr. 21, 2006 – In celebration of the 10th Marc Davis Lecture on Animation, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented the Brothers Quay in their first speaking engagement in the U.S., at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The evening featured a discussion with Stephen and Timothy Quay accompanied by screenings of several of their animated short films, including The Street of Crocodiles-1986, and The Comb-1990, (Disney Legend Marc Davis was one of Walt’s “Nine Old Men.”)
