Apr. 20, 2001 – Epcot’s 8th Annual “International Flower & Garden Festival” began at WDW. Performances included The Turtles (Apr. 20-22), Mitch Ryder (Apr. 23-24), The Nelsons (Apr. 25-26), Davy Jones (Apr. 27-29), and the Yardbirds (Apr. 30-May 3rd), Herman Hermits starring Peter Noone (May 4-6), Classic Rock All Stars (May 7-
10), Marshall Tucker Band (May 11-13), Bad Finger (May 14-15), The (New) Rascals (May 16-17), Paul Revere and the Raiders (May 18-20), Starship (May 21-24), Gary Puckett (May 25-28), The Buckinghams (May 29-30), and Arlo Guthrie (May 31st, & June 1-3).
Apr. 20, 2001 – A rare collection of photographs, books, papers and other personal items that belonged to the real Alice in Wonderland, Alice Pleasance Liddell Hargreaves was previewed at Sotheby’s in N.Y. (The collection will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in London on June 6, 2001.) The archive of materials included photographs that Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) took of young Alice and her sisters in the mid 1800’s, silver hairbrushes used by Alice, her wedding ring, and a copy of Alice’s Under Ground that the author personally inscribed, “to her whose namesake one happy summer day” inspired the story.
Apr. 20, 2002 – After 7 months at sea as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, U.S. Military personnel aboard the USS Shreveport were welcomed at their home port in Norfolk, Va., by Mickey Mouse and Disneyland Resort representatives. Cast members “adopted” the Shreveport as part of the Resort Operation Uplift Program through which cast members send messages of support and thanks to U.S. servicemen and women on active duty outside the U.S.
Apr. 20, 2004 – Disney’s live-action film “The Haunted Mansion” was released on VHS and DVD.
Apr. 20, 2005 – The Disney/Touchstone Picture Film “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” had its premiere in London. (General release was Apr. 29, 2005)
Apr. 20, 2005 – Salvatore “Tutti,” Camarata, who established and ran Disneyland Records for nearly 20 years, passed away in Burbank, Ca.
Apr. 20, 2006 – Mickey Mouse unveiled a new Creativity Center designed by Disney Imagineers at the Roy W. Roberts, II – Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club in Los Angeles, Ca. (as part of Disney’s continuing support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America). The festivities also included the interactive Disney Channel stage show “Imagineer That!” and a special guest appearance by Kyle Massey of Disney Channel’s original comedy series “That’s So Raven.”
Apr. 20, 2007 – The first of 4 Grad Nights kicked off in the Magic Kingdom at WDW.
Apr. 20, 2007 – Earth Day celebrations began at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The parks “Party for the Planet” event was organized by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
