Apr. 17, 1961 – Disney won an Oscar for the film “The Horse with the Flying Tail”, and Hayley Mills won an Academy Award for Disney’s 1960 film “Pollyana”, at the 33rd Annual Academy Awards.
Apr. 17, 1964 – Disney’s “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln” exhibit was shipped from California to New York for the World’s Fair.
Apr. 17, 1987 – The Mark V Monorails debuted in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
Apr. 17, 1993 – The “Tahitian Terrace” restaurant in Disneyland’s Adventureland closed.
Apr. 17, 1994 – Randle Charles, 31, fell about 20 feet from one of the Skyway Cabins at Disneyland. (Randle Charles filed a lawsuit, and was later dismissed before trial when it was discovered he jumped from the cabin.
Apr. 17, 1994 – The Disney Channel Premiere film “On Promised Land” aired.
Apr. 17, 1997 – Gibson Guitars held a demonstration at WDW’s Pleasure Island.
Apr. 17, 1998 – The International Flower and Garden Festival began in Epcot at WDW and would run through Mar. 31, 1998.
Apr. 17, 1998 – Walt Disney Records/Pony Canyon released the theme park album “Disney Carnivale” in honor of Tokyo Disneyland’s 15th anniversary.
Apr. 17, 2006 – Two of the stars of Disney/Pixar’s new computer animated feature “Cars” raced straight off the movie screen and into the real world as actual life-sized models for a 40 plus city tour. The “Cars Road Trip 06” was presented by State Farm and debuted in Akron, Oh.
