I am debating between mama melrose and tony's which is a better restaurant?

We didn't care for either one, but would be willing to give MM another chance in the future.

I have eaten at both- MM is better. I don't really like the selection at Tony's and the tables are very small and close together.

Personal preference, but hands down Mama Melrose for us.

I have only been to MM and it is a 'must do' for my family every trip.
We are booked at Tony's in May. What don't you folks like about Tony's?

:mickey:We had such a bad experience at Tony's that we haven't been back since. MM is a much better choice but we haven't eaten there for a few years but not because of the food just couldn't fit it in.

The first time DS and I ate there for lunch in '07, it was ok. DS's salad was warm & limp, but he liked his spaghetti (kid's menu). I had a meatball sandwich smothered in melted mozzarella & plentiful sauce, and it was good. Service was ok, although we had a DVC specialist try to give me the "hard-sell" in the lobby and wanted me to ditch DS after lunch for a presentation. Uh, no. DH was ill in the room and didn't get to eat with us. The reservation was booked specifically for DH, so he asked that we make a reservation for 2008.

Fast-forward to July of '08. We were placed in the outside area with a very inexperienced and clumsy server. While I don't remember what DH had, I know that DS ordered the spaghetti (adult menu) and it just wasn't to his liking. He barely ate anything - which is about as strange as it gets since he loves spaghetti and rarely leaves a whole plate of food sitting in front of him.

I once again had the meatball sandwich with a very different result - cold, hard bread with cold cheese, meatballs that tasted like they had been left over from the night before & a smattering of luke warm sauce covering it. What I should have done is ask that the server take it back to the kitchen, but I'm not a complainer by nature & felt uncomfortable as it was with our server. I guess at that point I just wanted to be done with the lunch, it was so disappointing. With our Disney Dining Experience 20% discount, lunch cost us $44.50 - and both DS and my plates were basically untouched. I do remember that DH said it was edible, but not someplace he wanted to repeat any time soon.

The above notwithstanding, I really believe that if you like the menu options at each Disney restaurant, you should try each one at least once for yourself. After all, each meal/server can make it a totally different dining experience and you may walk out of there loving it.

However, if given the choice between Mama Melrose and Tony's, there's no comparison for us. We'll be eating no less than three times on our upcoming trip at Mama's . . . zero for Tony's. With a few beers added, our lunch at Mama's with our DDE discount cost $56 - there wasn't a morsel of food left on any of our plates, we left there happy & full - and we'll keep going back. :mickey:

I should also add that within the MK, The Plaza Restaurant prices were comparable to Tony's at $43 with our discount for the three of us for lunch. However, the sandwiches were delicious and the service was outstanding.

I haven't been to Tony's but we had a very bad experience at Mama's so I would opt for Tony's my mother has eaten ther several times and loves it.

I had the chicken parm and my mom had spaghetti and meatballs/mine was bland and tasted like unseasoned fried chicken patty with a can of tomato paste on top and dumped on a bed of spaghetti/my mom said hers was just plain gross

The pistachio creme brulee was good and so was our service but not enough to redeem the food and make us go back.

Went to both two years ago and Tony's was awful! Bad service, cold food (that I'm not sure would have been better warm...), and on, and on. MM all the way!

i feel i have to stick up for Tony's...never been to MM...but we loved Tony's. in fact when we go back this december we're doing a "greatest hits" of restruants, and Tony's in on there.
our waiter was awesome..the desert tray was very good...food was really good and we thought the atmosphere was awesome..the only down thing is it was very crowded and the lobby was packed.

When DH and I went to WDW last September we ate at both MM's and Tony's. We had good service at both and the food was good too. For the trip this year, I would love to go back to MM's, but our tentative schedule isn't going to allow for it. We are going back to Tony's.

Tony's seems much more like Chef Boyardee to me. It is really bland (and I don't mean bland in a good way as in "plain, fresh marinara" - I mean bland like industrial-sized, basic, canned sauce) with mostly overcooked pasta.

Mama's is at least a little more inventive and tends to have fresher ingredients.

I'm not a huge fan of either but I think Mama's far outweighs Tony's - I WISH they would fix Tony's - I would love to eat there if it were better but I just can't justify the $$$ for something I can get in a jar and a box for $3.

We ablsolutley loved Tony's and we are heading back there this year. We had yummy food (not bland at all) and awesome service. We have not been back to MM for years due to a bad experience there. The food was not impressive and the service was horrendous. I think I would give it another try (MM) only if we could have gotten the Fantasmic package. We didn't get it so we opted for 50's instead. But we will be going back to Tony's.

It really is a matter of personal preference. I would make up my own mind based on what is best for your situation. Give them a try they are both always packed!

We've eaten at Mama Melrose twice and loved it both times. We will eat there again on our next trip --- not that I know when that will be.
