We are considering staying at Wilderness Lodge with 2 young children... aka two strollers. We wanted to know how big the water taxis are that run between the Lodge and MK. Can the strollers be taken on without being folded up? Are they the same size as the ones that run between Epcot and Hollywood Studios? And finally, how often do they run?

Thanks!

The water taxis are pretty big- they hold about 40-50 people. You can take strollers on, but they make you take out the kids and fold the strollers up. This is true for all Disney transportation (buses, boats and monorail), as it is unsafe in an accident for a child to be in the stroller.

The boats come roughly every 20 minutes. The scenery at the docks is nice, so the time flies by. The longest we have ever waited was 35 minutes.

Taking a boat ride to the MK is a lot more fun than a bus. It feels like you're already on a ride before you even enter the park. Just don't sit at the very back if diesel fumes bother you.

They do not always make you take the children out of the stroller to ride...depends on how crowded the boat is and I guess your boat captain.

Also important to note is that sometimes they use the little boats...seat 20ish...between MK and WL, just depends on the hour of the day.

If you Google "Capacity of Boats at Disney World" you can choose links that will show the actual boats in question. I believe the "Motor Cruiser" boats hold closer to 100 people due to the uncovered front, covered middle area and back area of the boat. They have plastic seats and are seen running most frequently at park opening and closing. Depending upon the water level in the lake (and the captain) you may be able to leave your children in their strollers. The "Motor Launch" crafts hold closer to forty people, and you must take your children out of their strollers since it's a "step in" craft, not a "roll-in" type that comes equal with the dock. They have varnished wood seats and are used most in the "Contemporary-WL-FtW" loop. However, they are also utilized to transport guests to and from the MK. Both of these crafts are different than the "Friendship" boats that run between Epcot & DHS.

We love that boat ride to the MK! :mickey:

You don't have to take the kids out of the stroller on the monorail. We have used a double stroller the last 3 visits and always leave the kids in when we board.

Every time we took the large ferry, whether it was crowded or not, we had to fold up the stroller.

The have two sizes actually, the wooden boat and the big metal ferry. The metal one you can keep your stroller open on, the wooden you need to fold it up on.

Out of courtesy to other passengers, you should fold up the stroller, if possible. Most captains will ask you to anyway, so be prepared. Regarding capacity, the boats do hold quit a few, and though we go in Sept and not the busiest times, we have never had a boat filled to capacity and always had a place to sit.

Also note that the smaller boats have no enclosed areas...can be very chilly on a cool night or very wet on a rainy day.

The metal one you can keep your stroller open on, the wooden you need to fold it up on.

1) Only if you sit in the rear and in the open air.
2) Sitting inside, you woud block an aisle.
3) Not good in an emergency.
4) You will be asked ot fold it.

The boats to and from the Wilderness Lodge vary in size. They do make you remove the children from the stroller and fold the stroller on the small boats but occasionally don't require this on the larger boats.
My family stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and the boats were a family favorite. Consider taking the small boat to the Contemporary and ride the monorail to MK or Epcot. Remember, you must transfer to a different monorail to go to Epcot.
Overall, the boats were a hit with my family! :mickey:
