On-line Check In ?

I am sure this was already asked, but how exactly does online check in work? What happens if you put in a room request and do not get it? Can you then go to the desk and try to get it changed, or are you stuck with what you got online?

We did online check in for our stay 2 wks ago. Nothing seemed different to me. I still had to go through everything with the lady at the desk. She didn't even have my CC# that I provided online.

There was another thread on this somewhere though I can't find it. Anyway it seems it depends on where you are and the day because I've heard reports like the above and I've heard reports that it made everything super quick.

As I understand it... the way it SHOULD work is you check-in online and get all the fun stuff out of the way like providing your credit card for room charges etc. Then when you arrive at your resort there is supposed to be a separate "line" for those who checked in online. There you basically provide ID, they hand over your vacation package folder, tell you where your room is and you go.

Something tells me that the benefits won't be really obvious until we get into the peak peak peak season and the waits to check-in at each resort go up to an hour plus. That's when I think checking in ahead of time will have some benefit but who knows.

I'll say this... I'm going to be trying the online check-in for this trip (which means I'll be doing it in 12 days). I'll be sure to include how it went in my trip report that follows. :)
