I see on alot of post you all mention "rope drop" and opening show? I was wondering what is this show and rope drop. We have had many Disney trips but never been there at opening what are we missing. What time does this take place also? Thanks for your help..:mickey:

Though, I haven't really ever been to one at Disneyworld (Usually eating breakfast at opening). I have seen it at Disneyland a few times.. I'm assuming people are referring to when the park opens, CMs have a rope at the end of Main Street in order to keep people from entering the rest of the park before the official opening time. Once opening time arrives they "drop" the rope usually to some type of fanfair. Last time I saw one I believe the Disney Marching Band marched down Main Street for the opening and what not.

That is likly what people are referring too I'm sure opening is probably a much bigger ordeal at Disneyworld since everything else tends to feel bigger then it does at Disneyland. :)

At some of the parks they have an opening show it's usually 10-15 minutes before the park opens at the Magic Kingdom a variety of characters ride in on the railroad at the main entrance they do a song and dance and then a family picked earlier that morning gets to throw pixy dust on everyone it's cute if you have children they also do somehthing like this at the animal kingdom as well!!!

.....actually there is a rope drop at the parks....at park opening, or just before, you start filing in, however your not "IN" till the "rope drops"....eg....AK you are allowed to the file in to the tree of life, no further....Mickey and Minnie come in on a safari buggie and get the crowd pumped up for the day and count down for the opening, then they actually drop the rope and the masses scatter .......

Each park has its own "Opening Ceremony" prior to guests being allowed into the park. While MKs is more elaborate than any other park, each park has a mini celebration with characters to welcome you. With the exception of MK, the park gates open and allow you into the park, but then at a central area there are ropes strung across the walkways so that you cannot go any further. Technically, "Rope Drop" refers to such time that the ropes are removed and you can proceed to the attractions in the park. :mickey:

We experienced MK's (the only one I've seen) on our last trip and really enjoyed it. It was a great way to add to the excitement (as if we weren't excited enough!) and get the day started off right! A dole whip or something from the bakery being handed out during it wouldn't hurt, but I can overlook that! I'm aiming to see MK and AK's in May. :mickey:

Going in the summer like we do, we've learned to get there early and have experienced each of the park's openings. MK, Epcot, and AK are our favorites, and Epcot is where we were chosen as Family of the Day in '05. As such, we got to ride out in a street legal Test Track car with the characters around us, waving at the crowd. We were then shuttled to Test Track in said car and escorted to the first car of the day. At the end of the ride (going a second time without disembarking as they asked if we wanted) we were given a picture of our ride and one FP good for the family at any ride in the park that day. Very cool and memories of a lifetime.

When do all of you early birds tend to arrive at each park before rope drop?

LOL - We like to be there 30 minutes prior to rope drop. We got a little over-anxious waiting for our breakfast at Tusker House on our trip in September, however, and ended up arriving 30 minutes prior to the PARKING LOT OPENING! LOL! It was funny to be the first in line to get a parking spot

We usually get to the park about a half hour before official park opening, but they typically open the turnstiles about 15 minutes before park opening. By half hour before park opening, there are decent lines at the turnstiles with CM's at those turnstiles and sometimes we will just get in line. Sometimes we will take a chance and hang out near a couple unmanned turnstiles (with no lines or CM's) and more often than not a CM will go to these and open them right before they start letting people in. Turnstiles are a **** shoot. A line with 100 people in it can be quicker than a line with 10 people in a couple people in the 10 person line run into a problem (finger scan, no days left, etc.). We just go with the flow and hope for the best. We also typically go in the off season, so it's probably more critical to get there super early during the peak times.

We ALWAYS make the"rope drops" @ our chosen parks. All parks have one and they're all pretty cool! MK used to allow you to go thru Main St and held you under the castle for theirs, but now you wait @ the gate in front of the RR and the train brings in the characters and the "Family of the Day". AK rope drops in front of the Tree of LIfe and a safari vehicle brings in the characters to help open the park. DHS allows you to the first intersection and used to have a little skit w/"actors" and a Family of the Day. And Epcot previously allowed you to SE and the character bus and Family of the Day opened the park. Now you go past SE and the characters and the FOTD still open the park. We were lucky enough to be chosen twice @ Epcot...greeting everyone coming into the park, ride in the TT vehicle, 1st riders on TT and MS, free FP for all the attractions, free character photos, FOTD certificate and pin, and royal treatment al day long. Not to mention, watching everyone running like crazy to their preferred attraction! :D
