Feb. 14, 2001 – Dick Cook, chairman of the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, announced that its Academy Award winning animated motion picture “Beauty and the Beast” would be released in IMAX and other large-format venues around the world in March 2002. Walt Disney Feature Animation has spent a year in production on the film, enhancing the image and refining characters faces, backgrounds, and special effects, in order to let the film shine brightly on the giant screen. In addition, the filmmakers have added an extraordinary, never-before-seen musical sequence. (The film will windup being released in Jan. 2002.)
Feb. 14, 2002 – The acclaimed Napa Rose restaurant (located in the Disneyland Resort) offered a tempting special four course Valentine feast.
Feb. 14, 2003 - Disney’s “The Jungle Book 2” opened in theaters.
Feb. 14, 2003 - The Liberty Bell Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island reopened after being closed for rehab.
Feb. 14, 2004 – Sleeping Beauty’s Royal Ball took place at Disneyland.
Feb. 14, 2004 – Filmmaker John Lasseter, the director of Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, and Toy Story 2, and the executive Producer of Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo, was given the Art Directors Guild’s coveted honorary Contribution to Cinematic Imagery Award.
Feb. 14, 2004 – The Lizzie McGuire episode “Magic Train” debuted on the Disney Channel. (It is considered to be the final episode of the series Hillary Duff.)
Feb. 14, 2006 – A groundbreaking ceremony for a new hotel in Tokyo Disneyland took place. Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Chip and Dale appeared in a safety prayer festival held at the planned construction site in front of the entrance of the park. The Tokyo Disneyland Hotel is scheduled to open 2008 and will have about 700 guest rooms.
Feb. 14, 2006 – A 70-year-old man was injured in the Fantasyland attraction “Peter Pan’s Flight” in the Magic Kingdom at WDW. The gentleman stumbled on the rides conveyor, and he got pinned under an oncoming pirate ship. He did not receive any life-threatening injuries.
Feb. 14, 2007 – Atlanta Braves pitchers and catchers reported for Spring training at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. It is the Braves 10th season at the Florida facility.
