Feb. 9, 1964 - Singer-actor Scott Craig, from the 1977 - 1978 TV show “The New Mouseketeers” was born in Los Angeles.
Feb. 9, 1964 – Disney’s part-1 of the 3-part TV movie “The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh” aired. (Part-2 aired Feb. 16, 1964, Part-3 aired Feb. 23, 1964)
Feb. 9, 1969 – Disney’s part-1 of its 3-part TV movie “The Secret of Boyne Castle” aired.
Feb. 9, 1979 – The Disney feature film “The North Avenue Irregulars” was released.
Feb. 9, 1986 - Magic Journey’s Closed at the Journey into Imagination Pavilion and then moved to the Magic Kingdom.
Feb. 9, 1996 - Villas at Disney Institute opened changing the name from Disney’s Village Resort. (Closed Feb. 11, 2002)
Feb. 9, 2001 – It was reported that attendance for the opening of Disney’s California Adventure on Feb. 8, fell far below the estimate of 33,000. By 2 p.m. (usually Disney’s peak hour) 14,000 tickets had been purchased and roughly 10,000 people were inside the park. When the gates opened at 8 a.m., only 3,000 were waiting to get in. Officials had prepared for more than 4 times as many.
Feb. 9, 2005 – “Disney War” by James Stewart hits bookshelves. Stewart details the scandals of CEO Michael Eisner’s management.
Feb. 9, 2006 – The Walt Disney Company re-acquired the rights to “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit” back from NBC Universal along with sports considerations for ESPN. The rights are obtained as part of a transaction permitting football play-by-play analyst Al Michaels to contract with NBC.
Feb. 9, 2007 – WDW’s Pleasure Island became “Sweetheart Island” today, tomorrow and Feb. 14th in honor of Valentine’s Day.
