My dh and I were having this discussion about his trip to WDW as a child. He swears he remembers playing with remote control ships on a lake there. We researched it and found they have those at the Jungle Cruise but he says that ride wasn't there when he went in the early 80's. So does anyone have any clue what remote control boats he remembers playing with and what is the story behind them?

I remember playing with them too, but I tend to think they were on the lake you cross to get to Tom Sawyer's Island........or river or whatever it is..........

The Jungle Cruise was there in 1971 when WDW opened.

The remote boats are still there beside the jungle cruise (was there just last week) but the controls were all covered up. I remember remote boats near the old 20,000 leagues under the sea ride and something near tom sawyers island also. But the only ones I remember seeing in my last 3 visits (01,04,09) are the ones at Jungle Cruise.

They are in the process of removing them. Slowly.

DH seems to think that the boats he played with were near 20,000 leagues under the sea. Well maybe he's not crazy after all :)

1) Yes, there were remote control boats at 20,000 Leagues.
2) We played with them twice (I think it was twice).

NOTE: It was was fun, but kind of a nuisance. People would be playing, then be called when their family got to the front of the loading line. The boat person would then line-jump.
