Feb. 1, 1999 - A month long salute to African-Americans in history began at WDW, and “Black Heritage Celebration” at the American Adventure in Epcot.
Feb. 1, 2001 – The 1st ever film festival aboard the Disney Wonder was held. The 4-day event was hosted by Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper from the film review series “Ebert & Roeper and the Movies.”
Feb. 1, 2001 – Starting today, WDW guests could experience the Black Heritage Celebration at the American Adventure in Epcot.
Feb. 1, 2001 – It was reported that Disney executives are giving serious thought to letting LEGO (the Danish toy manufacturer) build its next park on Disney soil. (LEGOLAND California, the first park created in the U.S. by LEGO, included rides, hands-on building challenges, interactive attractions, wild coasters and shopping opportunities.)
Feb. 1, 2003 – WDW’s “Diamond Horseshoe Revue” closed their saloon doors for good with a final performance. It would be replaced with Goofy’s Country Dancin’ Jamboree.
Feb. 1, 2003 – The “Diamond Horseshoe Revue” closed in Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom at WDW.
Feb. 1, 2003 – The 30th Annual Annie Awards took place at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, Ca. Animator DougSweetland picked up an Annie for his work in Disney’s “Monsters, Inc.” Daveigh Chase won an award for the voice of Lilo in Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch.” Voice actor Corey Burton won for the voice of Ludwig Von Drake in Disney’s “House of Mouse.” The Windsor McCay award (given to individuals for a lifetime of achievement in animation) was presented to Floyd Norman and the Sherman brothers. Norman worked at the Disney Studios on “Sleeping Beauty” and created story sketches for “The Jungle Book.” Songwriters Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman contributed greatly to the music legacy of countless Disney animated features.
Feb. 1, 2004 – Immediately following the New England Patriots Super Bowl win, quarterback Tom Brady was captured on video exclaiming: “I’m going to Disney World!” (The 34th episode of the long running TV ad would air all over the country the following morning.
Feb. 1, 2005 – “This actress who is the voice of Kim Possible…played Belle in Beauty and the Beast” is the answer given on today’s airing of the TV game show Jeopardy. The contestant answered correctly “Who is Christy Carlson Romano.
Feb. 1, 2005 – Disney’s animated film “Mulan II” was released direct-to-video.
