Hi Everyone,
My nephew will be going to Africa in a few weeks.

I wanted to get him an International calling card.

I know nothing about them.

For those of you who have used them, is one better than the other??

Thanks!

Actually, the best way to handle this question is one of three ways.

Visit Verizon.com or AT&T.com or go to the website for the motel which he'll be staying and often there is an FAQ section with such questions.

Verizon and AT&T offer International calling cards with the rate table published.

I just went through this with my wife's trip to Quebec. Both Verizon and AT&T have like a real time calculator to determine the cost per minute to call from Quebec to a destination in the US.

FWIW, the destination in the US does matter.

As it turned out for my wife, the motel in Quebec had information about calling cards and the Canadian calling card was cheapest.

I can tell you from experience that calling cards carry a tremendous penalty when using a pay phone and often up to 30 units (minutes) just to get a dial tone.
