My last trip (also my first trip) to WDW was in 2007 during Easter weekend. I was really looking forward to taking a picture under the Singin in the Rain Umbrella in MGM's Streets of America. To my utter disappointment, the umbrella wasn't there! :pout: A CM told me that it was taken out during the winter..........it was APRIL!!! Besides, winter in Orlando only lasts about 2 months and was clearly over by the time I arrived. Can anyone tell me if they put it back or if this was a permanent change? Do they take it out every year? I'm going back in about 3 weeks and wondering if it will be there this time. :mickey:

The original poster said that a CM told her it was taking out during the Winter.... Christmas is Winter and it was there for the last 2 trips I took in Winter. My DH and I go again in 2 weeks and hope to get pictures there.

It was there in Sept. Some people were standing under it and didn't realize you needed to step on the square to get it to work. They walked away saying "it doesn't work". I of course being a smarty walked up and set it off.

It was there on the 30th when I worked HSM Ops. It was blocked off however, because of the Osborne lights. It's at the end of the New York Street on the left hand side as you are looking at LMA. It's specific location is the curb there that faces LMA and San Fran Street.

We couldn't find it when we went in Aug 2007. We looked all up and down the streets in that part for it but never found it. I was disappointed. :(

but was it working? I don't think we have seen it work since all the superfluous water features were turned off because of the drought (2003?)

I have to say, in my many, many visits to the World, I have NEVER even seen the Singing in the Rain umbrella. That is terrible, because I would love to see it. I guess that is a must do for my trip in May!

Oh it's still there and it totally works. We found it and played with it during our last trip in September, as we had never found it before. Took some pictures, had a good time, moved on...

I have to agree, we have been there many times as well and I have never heard of it, let alone seen it.

Can someone tell me where abouts this is? I would like to check it out when we are there in 2 weeks..yeah!

It's a great pic spot! I get one taken EVERY year there hanging of fit Fred style! It's a great way of seeing just how old you are really getting. Groan! Looking forward to parking my wheelchair next to it and trying to reach it when I am 70!

Fred style??? Maybe Gene style? I'm guessing you're still pretty young if you mixed them up. Now geezers like me just have to work on keeping the Jonas Bro's sorted out ;)

In our travels, it's always worked in May/June/July. Classic pictures of my family are taken in front of this spot yearly. It's also a really nice way to cool off, especially if you've been in an autograph line without shade for a long period!

It occurs to me that I have read in some posts in the past that it is off-line during off-season, however.

Glad it is working again. On our last two trips to the world it wasn't working. Can't wait to Sing in the rain again!

I can easily tell which one is which. I love Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Both were such talented men, although I always found Gene to be much better on the eyes.

The easiest way to find it is to walk down to the San Franciso street scene and look on the corner to the left.

By the way, check out the white van on the left side of the SF street. It is very realistic looking. You have to be very close to see it is painted on a wall.
