just want to know if there are any of you out there that have tried this.
are the yearly fee's the same for every resort?

Yes, there are many poeple who do this, not only to share the cost, but because they actually like to vacation with each other. The "problem" with this, is everyone is everyone is probably going to be on the contract. What that means is, if you call and make reservations for a vacation, ANYONE on that contract can call right back and cancel that reservation. Make sure you know, trust, and have some sort of agreement on the use of the points BEFORE you buy. Disney isn 't going to manage the ownership for you. They do what they need to and that's going to be making and cancelling reservations based on members calling.

No, maintenance fees are different for each resort. In general, the dues/fees are proportional to the size. Larger developments spread the cost out more and therefor have lower dues, but this doesn't have to be the case.

No, fees/dues are based on the number of points you own. If the dues are $5 a point, someone who owns 50 points pays $250 for their dues, vs $1000 for the person who own's 200 points.

None that I can think of. You have your "mortgage" and your dues. I'm not sure if DVC can do assessments or not, for example, if the roof just went belly up at the Boardwalk, can Disney do a one time assessment to cover repairs? From my experience (DVC member since 2000) this has never happened, but I'm not sure if it can't. I will tell you that dues have gone up each year, just like everything else.
Anyone who you wants to take advantage of ANY member benefits needs to be on the contract. So, if you get a bunch of people together to chip in, ALL of them should be on the contract in order to take advantage of say the current AP discount. If they aren't on the contract, they will not be able to get the discount.
