I just read that universe of energy's ride and show are going to be closed when I get there.
:(
But, what I'm wondering is...what exactly is going on when the R&R is scheduled? Just curious, since I know rides are constantly being inspected and are obviously not broken. What sort of things are being done?

Often it's "little" things that take longer than the time they have when the park is closed. Things like carpet replacement, effects repairs, repainting, or even things like better handicap access, updating the sound system, etc.

All depends on what's wrong. Often it's cheaper to do everything at once than to fix things as they break. Rule #1 is to keep the ride operational to help park capacity for as long as possible.

And who knows, it could even be closure under the guise of a rehab when in reality, they don't need/want to staff the attraction for a while to control costs. Instead of listing it as seasonal, just close it for a month or two as a rehab.
