Dec. 23, 1887 – Comic actor Eric Blore-the voice of Mr. Toad in Disney’s “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad,” was born in London, England.
Dec. 23, 1931 – Comedian-actor Ronnie Schell was born in Richmond, Va. His Disney credits include the 1978 “The Cat From Outer Space” as the voice of Jake the Cat, The 1977 TV special “The Mouseketeers at Walt Disney World,” and the 1976 feature “The Shaggy D.A.”
Dec. 23, 1938 – Disney’s Silly Symphony cartoon “Mother Goose Goes Hollywood” was released.
Dec. 23, 1942 – Original Mouseketeer John Lee Johann was born in Madison, Wisconsin.
Dec. 23, 1943 – Actor-writer Harry Shearer, the voice of Dog Announcer in the 2005 animated feature “Chicken Little,” was born in Los Angeles, Ca. (A Saturday Night Live alumni, Shearer provided many of the voices for TV’s The Simpsons.)
Dec. 23, 1954 – The Disney movie “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” starring Kirk Douglas, Peter Lorre, and James Mason, was released. (It was the first Disney feature filmed in CinemaScope.)
Dec. 23, 1954 – Disney’s Donald Duck cartoon “Grand Canyonscope” was released.
Dec. 23, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Today is Talent Round-Up Day” on ABC-TV.
Dec. 23, 1962 – The Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color TV series aired “Holiday Time at Disneyland.”
Dec. 23, 1966 – TIME the weekly news magazine featured the article “Walt Disney: Images of Innocence” (volume 88 no. 26). A portrait of actress Julie Andrews graces the cover.
