Nov. 28, 1859 – Washington Irving, the writer of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” died in N.Y.C.
Nov. 28, 1907 – Louis B. Mayer, a Boston scrap-metal dealer, purchased a small rundown movie theater in Haverhill, Massachusetts. (Within a few years, he will own the largest theater chain in New England and would begin distributing films. In 1917, he would start his own production company, which through a series of mergers, would become part of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer or…MGM.)
Nov. 28, 1927 – Disney’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit black & white short “The Banker’s Daughter” was released.
Nov. 28, 1928 - Mickey Mouse’s Birthday
Nov. 28, 1928 – “Mickey Mouse” and “Minnie Mouse” both made their 1st appearance in the Disney Cartoon “Steamboat Willie.”
Nov. 28, 1943 – Academy Award-winning singer-songwriter Randy Newman who scored the music for many Disney films like “Toy Story,” “James and the Giant Peach,” and “Monsters, Inc.,” was born in Los Angeles, Ca.
Nov. 28, 1944 – Walt Disney wrote a birthday letter to his sister Ruth. He wrote about his next-feature-length release called “The Three Caballeros.” Along with his birthday wishes was a check because he “hasn’t the slightest idea what to send.”
Nov. 28, 1947 – Disney’s Donald Duck cartoon “Chip an’ Dale” was released.
Nov. 28, 1949 – Bandleader/TV personality Paul Shaffer, the voice of Hermes the Messenger God in Disney’s “Hercules,” was born in Ontario, Canada.
Nov. 28, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Today is Fun With Music Day” on ABC-TV.
